Welcome to
First Christian Church of Tacoma

Christmas in Tacoma

Do you love the Christmas season, but...

You're just not sure about some of those who call themselves Christians, and maybe your experience of church has felt more about judgment than joy

We get that.

You want to find a church that understands that families come in all shapes and sizes, that won't bash on people because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, or who have lots of tattoos or piercings, or who are single parents, or who are struggling with addictions.

We get that, too.

You believe that God is love.  Period.  Maybe you are tired of churches that tell you whom you should hate.  You want a community that knows that God's grace is for everyone and that all really does mean all!

We get that.

And you know what? That's what we believe too!  We're not into deciding whom God can't love, or judging folks based on things that don't matter one iota to a God who loves all and welcomes all.

Intrigued?  Didn't think there was a church like that?

Come join us during the weeks leading up to Christmas at one of our many activities or come to our Christmas Eve service at 4:30 p.m. (You won’t have to drive in the dark and will be home in time for family activities or time with your little ones).  This service of “Lessons and Carols” includes communion (where ALL are welcome to participate) and close with the singing of "Silent Night" and the lighting of candles. Each child present will receive a free gift.

If you like what you discover, we also invite you to check us out on Sunday mornings for worship at 11:00 a.m.  (There's also educational opportunities for all ages at 9:30 a.m. and some tasty treats and good conversations to be had at our Coffee Hour following worship. Want to know what to expect in our worship services

More about us:

Are you looking for a connection to God, but have felt "burned" or judged by a church in the past?

Do you love vibrant music, passionately played, that is the best of a mix of old & new from a variety of cultures & styles?

Would you enjoy a church experience that is not “stuffy” and where folks truly welcome everyone – where all truly means all, whatever your race, class, ethnicity, gender identity or orientation?

Do you have questions about God and faith and want to be somewhere where those questions are honored, not judged?

Do you want to hear sermons that proclaim God’s love for every person and creature that God has made?

If any of these are you, then we invite you to learn more about First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Tacoma.  You will find a commitment to celebrating diversity and encouraging each person to come to know God in his or her own way.  We have a strong commitment to children and youth; we seek to practice "radical hospitality" and to accept folks wherever they are on life's journey.  You'll never be told what you have to believe, and, perhaps most importantly, everyone is treated with respect and dignity; no one is second‑class and all are truly welcome!

Some helpful resources for the holidays…

We hope that you’ll join us for any or all these activities listed here!  We understand that there are lots of folks who love the Advent and Christmas seasons but are skeptical of “church,” having seen too many instances where churches were judgmental and joyless.

Please know that you are truly welcome here – whatever your race, orientation, class, or economic status.  You are “welcome, wanted, and safe” and we want EVERYONE to know the good news of Christmas: that God’s unconditional love for each and all come at Christmas to each and all!
